“Following an appeal by the Parish Council, a number of community volunteers kindly came forward to help canvas residents for signatures. A briefing was provided to those volunteers able to attend an extraordinary meeting on Friday 28th July. There are strict rules for petitions that are to be presented to Parliament by MPs: –
- Duplicate signatures must be avoided.
- All signatories must reside or work in Hockliffe.
- The address given must have a Hockliffe postcode.
- There is no lower age limit for those able to write their address and sign.
The village was split into six street zones, each being allocated to volunteers and counsellors who will aim to canvas in pairs where possible.
It is hoped that canvassing will be completed by 8th September so that the result can be discussed at the 11th September Parish Council meeting before submission to Andrew Selous MP for presentation to the House of Commons. However, this deadline can be extended if it becomes necessary to ensure as many residents as possible have the opportunity to sign.”
